HSBC Asset Management (HSBC AM) has announced the launch of the HSBC MSCI China Robotics UCITS ETF, offering investors access to companies involved in the development of robotics and related core technologies across China.
The Fund aims to physically replicate the performance of the MSCI China All Shares IMI Robotics Select Index, which is designed to provide targeted exposure to companies involved in industrial, non-industrial, autonomous and humanoid robotics, as well as the key technologies and components supporting their development and adoption across manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, agriculture and autonomous systems. The Index covers large, mid and small cap companies listed in mainland China, Hong Kong and overseas markets, including companies accessible through Stock Connect and internationally listed Chinese companies.
The Index selects up to 40 companies from the MSCI China All Shares IMI Index, subject to eligibility, liquidity and other screening criteria. To be eligible, a company must derive at least 50 per cent of its total revenue from robotics-related activities. Each constituent is capped at a maximum weight of 5 per cent of the Index. The Index is then reviewed semi-annually, in May and November, to ensure that it continues to reflect the intended robotics investment theme and meets the relevant eligibility and screening criteria.
As of September 2026, Industrials and Information Technology companies represented 88 per cent of the Index, reflecting its focus on the manufacturers, equipment providers and software businesses supporting the development and adoption of robotics. These included companies operating in industrial machinery and supplies, electronic equipment and instruments, and application software.
The firm writes that the launch builds on HSBC Asset Management’s existing range of China and Asia equity UCITS ETFs, including the HSBC MSCI China UCITS ETF, and on the HSBC Group’s long-standing presence in Hong Kong and mainland China – bringing together ETF and indexing expertise with local market insight to give investors in Europe a focused and transparent way to access China’s robotics theme.
Olga de Tapia, Global Head of ETF & Indexing Sales at HSBC Asset Management, says: “China has become the world’s largest market for industrial robots and is playing an increasingly important role in bringing artificial intelligence from the digital world into the physical economy. Some of the most significant innovation in robotics is taking place in China, supported by the country’s manufacturing expertise, broad domestic supply chains and policy support for embodied intelligence.
“Against that backdrop, we are pleased to launch what we expect to be the market’s first UCITS ETF dedicated to China’s robotics sector and help bring that innovation from East to West by offering investors a simple and transparent way to access companies participating in this evolving theme.”
The Fund will be listed on the London Stock Exchange, Euronext Paris, Borsa Italiana, SIX Swiss Exchange and Deutsche Börse Xetra.
